WELCOME TO THE

FIELD DAY 2010 PAGE

Field Day 2010 was a lot of fun - as always. My radio club, the St Louis and Suburban Radio Club had a set up at a local park working CW, SSB, digital and a GOTA station.

We had around 100 people show up throughout both days and had around 70 there Saturday afternoon. Although the weather was a bit on the warm side agin this year, we were able to keep everyone relatively cool. We had plenty of ice-cold water, sno-cones, fans, and the "official Field Day Cooling Station" - the abundance of trees around the shelter and a moderate breeze most of the day helped too. We were also able to avoid any rain this year - wow, no mad scramble to lower the tower and unhook the radios when the lightning comes!

In the past we have only had a few people stick around for the overnight operations, but this year we had between 10 and 15 there. It sure made the overnight session a lot more enjoyable. Around 11:30 Saturday night the night crew got a special surprise - KØTVI who works for KTVI television showed up with a retired TV news van. He has been working on fixing it up and gave us a demonstration of ATV - Amateur Television. That was truly a nice treat for late at night.
